On 6 June 2024, amidst the excitement of the Shanghai International Carbon Neutral Technology, Products and Achievements Expo (“Shanghai Carbon Neutral Expo”), China BlueChemical Ltd. (“China BlueChem”) signed a memorandum of understanding (the “MOU”) on the establishment of the “Green Carbon Mono-Chemicals Advanced Technology Joint Laboratory” (the “Joint Laboratory”) with BASF, a global chemical giant. This signifies that the two companies have formally started working closely in the field of green chemical industry, and are jointly committed to promoting the development of the chemical industry in the direction of low-carbon, green and sustainable development.
The establishment of the Joint Laboratory aims to build an innovative platform to explore and develop a range of forward-looking and practical green chemical technologies based on carbon mono-chemicals. According to the MOU, both parties will work closely in key areas such as carbon dioxide synthesis, green methanol and green ammonia, green hydrogen preparation and purification, green olefin synthesis, green olefin oligomerisation, and hydrogenation of green olefins for the production of green fuels and sustainable aviation fuels (e-safes, e-SAFs).
Mr. 李松濤, Deputy Chief Engineer and General Manager of Science and Technology Information Department of China BlueChem, and Dr. 衛國輝, Vice President and Global Head of Chemical Catalysts of BASF, signed this symbolic MOU on behalf of both parties. Mr. Tang Xiangyang, Vice President of China BlueChem, Dr. Jeffrey Jianfeng Lou, President and Chairman, BASF Greater China and other senior management attended and witnessed this important moment.
“China BlueChem has always been committed to scientific and technological innovation and actively exploring green, low-carbon and high-efficiency development paths. Our cooperation with BASF is an important step in promoting the green transformation of the chemical industry,” said Mr. Tang Xiangyang. “We look forward to injecting new vitality into the chemical industry through the research and development work of the Joint Laboratory and making positive contributions to the green transformation of the global chemical industry.”
Dr. Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President of Global Process Catalysts, BASF, also expressed high expectations for the cooperation. He said, “BASF has always been committed to promoting the sustainable development of the chemical industry. Our cooperation with China BlueChem will further leverage the technological strengths of both parties to develop more sustainable solutions and contribute to the transformation of the chemical industry into a low-carbon and emission-reducing industry.”
This cooperation not only demonstrates the common pursuit and strong belief of China BlueChem and BASF in green chemical technology, but also implies the active roles and contributions of both parties in the global chemical industry's green transformation. With the formal establishment of the Joint Laboratory, we expect to see more innovative and practical green chemical technologies being introduced, injecting new impetus for the sustainable development of the global industrial industry.
